If you are using the latest version on Steam, download the AE build. The older build supporting 1.5.97 is still around to support people who have downgraded their installation or otherwise prevented updates.
SKSE will support the latest version of Skyrim available on Steam, and only this version (currently 1.9.32 with any other numbers following). It is extremely unlikely that any future non-SE Skyrim updates will be released.

This update introduces the Anniversary version of the game, adding four Creation Club creations to the base game, while granting access to all Creation Club content (a total of 74 creations) if the user purchases either the Anniversary Edition, or the Anniversary Edition upgrade. The update also fixes several bugs and issues and makes various performance improvements to the game, as well as modifies quests associated with Creation Club content to no longer start after leaving Helgen.
While the anniversary edition offers all of the Creation Club content, players who don't buy it will still get some new content, too, as long as they own Skyrim: Special Edition. Four sizable content packs are being made free for everyone to download and play.
Saints & Seducers is one of the biggest content packs available, and now it's being given away for free. This pack has a little bit of everything themed around Sheogorath's Shivering Isles, with armor, weapons and Daedric artefacts in-store, alongside 8 new quests and 19 new creatures/characters. It even comes with the bonus pack, Rare Curios, which gives rare goods to Skyrim's Khajit merchants.
Unlike Special Edition, the Anniversary Edition is not offered as a free upgrade to any existing players. However, current owners of the Special Edition on all platforms will receive "three free pieces of Creation Club content: Fishing, Survival Mode and even new quests with Saints and Seducers." Additionally, current owners of the Special Edition on the Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 will receive a free upgrade to an "enhanced version" of the Anniversary Editionconfirmation needed on November 11, 2021.[1]
I bought it and as soon as I started using it for the first time, it started overheating.I requested it to be replaced, and the the replacement also overheats the same way. After a 10 or 15 minutes it feals real hot!.It is a 32GB, 1 TB SSD, i7.Drivers were updated by Dell technical support.Any ideas? should I return this 2nd one too?Thank you!
Ok hopefully Cool mode helps. It's probably doing a lot of updates in the background the first couple hours since the machine is out of the box, which may elevate temps a bit. But other than that it should stay cool. But yeah, this may be just what it is. I'm used to machines like this so I see it as normal, but if you were used to a thicker and lower powered laptop before, it will definitely be cooler feeling than this XPS. To know for sure if it's your hardware or not, there is some temperature monitoring software available. I use Hwinfo32 which is a free download. If you want to try it, it's pretty easy to use. Just open it, check sensors only and then double clock on Core Max. It'll open a graph that shows temperature over time. While in cool mode, it should stay under 70C which should prevent excessive overheating of the chassis.
Installed perfectly on POM version of Steam like Oblivion did. For skyrim however when I press play, the loading bar "Installing Microsoft VC Redist Package" remains and doesn't do anything. I looked around the web and renaming the launcher files were one way but did not end up working either. Some help would be great. Thank you
Is there any way to play special edition on playonmac? I downloaded skyrim recently after the original version was taken off of the steam store so the only version I have is the special edition unfortunately & I do not possess the specs needed to run skyrim on my windows system as it's an old laptop..
I've gotten Skyrim up and running, but when I try to close it freezes. I have it running in window mode because when I use full screen the freeze happens and I can't alt-tab to a new window to close skyrim. I've looked everywhere for a solution but was unable to find one. Can you help?
I have PlayonLinux and I have Steam off of that. I recently bought Skyrim and it opens to the main menu. But when I press play it freezes in the loading screen and I have to restart my computer. Any suggestions?
Quit the game is not possible: When I click on "quit to desktop", the game window freezes and I cannot move the mouse anymore, but Skyrim isnt closed. I can go to an open terminal and kill the appropriate process, e.g
I have found something very interesting. As it turns out, Skyrim runs very well with Wine 1.7.40-staging, a patched version of Wine. I have updated the script to use this. This Wine version (finally!) fixes the bug where you continuously walk in a single direction. It also does not have audio problems, unlike some newer, unpatched versions of Wine. I've yet to find a problem of any kind when using Skyrim with Wine 1.7.40-staging; it runs flawlessly with this version. 2ff7e9595c
